Fire Trucks

No matter where our family goes, fire trucks seem to follow. This one appeared at our hotel at 8:30 am because a man had collapsed in the casino!

Tacos?

Tacos (?) at "Nicky's" in Shreveport. I've never seen tacos like this! Have you?

The Bike

Each night it was an adventure as we unloaded the car. We could not leave the bike outside overnight, and boy did we get some strange looks as we came rolling it into the hotel each night! This is at "Sam's Town Hotel and Casino" in Shreveport, LA. Notice that "Wolfie" is riding the bike...this was before we accidently left him at a hotel in Eastland, TX! (Aaron was NOT happy with us for that one!)

Transition Areas

The boys in the "caverns" at the Anniston Natural History Museum.

Aaron was "attacked" by a bear in Alabama!

Look closely at the sign!

Aaron and Mommy enjoying the zoo!

It was all fun and games until the giant spider attacked!

Just like in an Ironman race, we had to break up our journey into sections. So, we tried to have "transition areas" to break up the race. We tried to find places along the way that the boys would find interesting. On our first day of travel, we stopped at the Anniston Natural History Museum in Anniston, Alabama. It was a cool museum and Aaron really enjoyed it! On the second day, our transition area was the Jackson Zoo.

Back to Training!

James took a few days off after the race to rest and recover. Now, it is time to get back to the serious training. He was up at 4:00 am, yesterday to go swim at the gym. Less than 100 days until race day! 97 to be exact!

Endurance Sport

James loading the bike for the cross country trip.

The boys are ready to travel! Look how excited they are!

James is ready to hit the road!

We rolled out at 5:04 am!

Ironman triathlons are endurance sports. Not just for the athlete, but for the athlete's family as well! We had been planning the trip to the Ironman 70.3 Buffalo Springs Lake race for months. Extensive research went into planning the route, finding inexpensive hotel rooms that were still nice (and clean!), planning stops along the way for James to stretch and hydrate, and planning things to keep the boys happy, while still learning something about the areas we were visiting. Also, there was a lot that went into packing an infant, a six year old, an Ironman and a mommy for 10 days away from home!
