One of the things I love about triathlons, is the “family” atmosphere.  I am not just talking about being there with the family.  Even though triathlons are competitive, you do not often see the “cut-throat” rivalry that you see in other sports.  For instance, in the NFL, would a Dallas Cowboys fan ever go to a game and cheer for the Washington Redskins?  Ummmm…no!  At a triathlon though, you will see this very thing.  As a “tri family” we go to cheer on James, but we also cheer on his competition!  Heck, he even cheers on his competition while out on the course!

Even at the big races you see this.  At the Ironman races, the crowd goes crazy as the first place finisher crosses the line, and the crowd continues to go crazy, right up until the last finisher crosses right before midnight.    You often hear stories of the “pros” coming back out to cheer for the final finishers.   This is one of the many reasons we love being a “tri family”!
